Child Custody - Parenting
Parenting arrangements are often needed after a couple separates. Every situation is different and there is no particular way of dealing with parenting arrangements. Children have the right to a meaningful relationship with both their parents. Parenting arrangements can be oral (a spoken agreement), written in a Parenting Plan all written in Consent Orders.
The issues that are covered in parenting arrangements are where the child (or children) live and what time do they spend with the other parent. It will deal with the Parental Responsibility which is deciding who will be responsible for the major long-term decisions about the child. It can also cover medical decisions and what school the child will attend.
A parenting plan is a written agreement between the parents but it is not legally enforceable.
Court Orders cover the agreement between the parents and is enforceable by the court. The court must approve the agreement and be sure that is in the best interests of the child.
